Tests for the coronavirus are being offered at some private clinics, but tests are still scarce. Requesting a test doesn’t mean a patient will get one.

More than 100 Aransas County residents were tested for COVID-19 Thursday and Friday.
About 140 residents were tested for free in Rockport and Fulton as part of a drive-in program established by Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services, according to an Aransas County news release.

“We have been very limited as to what we could do to ensure the safety of our residents,” Aransas County Judge C.H. “Burt” Mills said in the release. “The Stay at Home Order was a big step, but we had no testing facilities or way of knowing exactly what the infection situation was in our community other than the two cases that were reported to the Texas Department of State Health Services.”
Thursday, 63 specimens were collected and 80 were registered for collection Friday.
Results from tests will take five to seven days. The county will receive notification of positive cases and will receive age, gender and how the person contracted the virus, the release states.
