Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced Monday that the state's stay-at-home order will expire as scheduled Thursday and retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters, and malls can reopen in on May 1.

As outlined in Governor Abbott’s executive order, individuals may also play outdoor sports, provided that the sports do not include contact with other participants, and no more than four participants play the sport at any time. Under the order, you are asked to avoid swimming pools.

The public is to self-screen and check for the following symptoms before playing sports: Cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain or headache. You should also check for sore throat, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, fever or a temperature greater than or equal to 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit.

Be sure you have not had known close contact with a person who is lab confirmed to have the virus, but remember that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to others by infected persons who have few or no symptoms.

The virus that causes COVID-19 is still circulating, so individuals are asked to continue to observe practices that protect everyone, including those who are most vulnerable.

Because of the hidden nature of this threat, everyone should rigorously follow the practices specified in these protocols, "all of which facilitate a safe and measured reopening of Texas."
